If a person intends to apply to to the Family Court for a parenting order, a Certificate from a registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner under Section 601 (8), Family Law Act, 1975 (as amended) confirming that an attempt at family dispute resolution was made, is a compulsory prerequisite.
Family Dispute Resolution is usually available to parties in conflict over such family issues as:
- separation
- arrangements for children after separation including parenting
- division of property
- future relationship
